Meanings
-
The word rope can apply to many types. Particulary with my graphic, I wanted to give it a nautical allusion. The pattern within the font is a print of rope (Public Domain). The font and arrangement of the letters are meant to represent the continuity of rope as if all the letters were made from one piece. The background represents the waves of the ocean to complement the nautical theme.

I started by typing the word "iron". I was going to use that until I started looking through the fonts. Searching through fonts is not the easiest on GIMP. I came across this cursive script that made me think of the word "rope". I typed it out then tried to think of ways I could make more flourishes than merely the font itself. I then tried to find a way I could put a pattern as the letters themselves. I looked up a tutorial online and the rest is history.

Choices
-
The words that first came through my head were verbs like "jump" or "wait", which would have been equally fun to do, but I changed my mind to do a noun. My first thought was to do the word "lamp", but my initial ideas of what I wanted to do would have been beyond my experience level at the moment. Also, shamefully, I did not allow myself enough time to work on this properly, so many choices were made in the sake of time. And it uses less time to do something fairly less complex. I will definitely enjoy doing more of these projects in the future.
